Pledge Your Support

Ok - so, you think we're going through all this pain and agony just for fun? - it's about raising some funds for charity - specifically some great organizations in The Gambia -

The van (ICV) and all our tools will be placed up for auction upon our arrival in Banjul - Gambia. The proceeds of these efforts will benefit the people of Gambia through several charities.

One is ASSET - they are about promoting grass roots tourism and encouraging the local Gambians to get their share of the tourism business. -  read more about them here: ASSET

Another is Gambian National Olympic Committee - they are about promoting sports in Gambia and you can read more about them here: GNOC

The remainder of the funds derived from auctioning off all the vehicles will be granted to worthy organizations inside Gambia.

You can help -
John and I would like to encourage you to donate to the cause - we figured we would hit everyone up just like all the people who walk for breast cancer, the kids who do the 6 mile hikes for candy bars, and so forth. What we're suggesting is for you to pledge some amount per mile that we make it - that way if the ICV blows up along the way - well, some funds will still be raised.

Just to give you an idea - if you pledged 1 US cent per mile and we make it all the way to Gambia - 3,800 miles , it's only $38. 2 US cents per mile, about $75. And so forth. And for you heavy hitters out there, how about making it $1 a mile - you never know, we might not make it all the way anyway and it's all deductible from uncle sam.

I figured that I would just put people on their honor, send in a pledge and when we return home, we'll collect the funds from everyone.

Please give generously, these people worry about where their next meal comes from - not about if they should get the latest X Box game.
